What!!! Most don’t care about Social Networking
March 12, 2007 2:23 pm UncategorizedThe DeepJiver: Social Networking A Fad? Most People Don’t Actually Care About It.
The big secret is that yep … most people do not care. They just want to be informed. Who’d have thought?
I’ll happily put my hand up as one that has struggled to fully understand, or comprehend, what social networking is/does … or is meant to really achieve. Apart from adding another layer of information overload.
Is social networking a fad? Probably.
Will social networking survive? No doubt it will.
Will social networking change our lives? I doubt that very much.
Is the term “social” useless and confusing everyone and should just be dropped? Yes!
Now, if your target audience is primarily early adopters then sure, knock yourself out spending 98% of your time “social networking”.
For the rest of us, who deal with ordinary folks (yes, there are even ordinary folks running around in the wild west of today’s internet) well just continue as you’re doing, you don’t have to be “with it” on every new “social” idea but … keep an eye on it.
Phew! Finally! I can now let my guard down and stop my pretense of actually understanding what’s going on with “social networking” - I hope that does not make me any less web2.0ish.
