The Aussie Blogosphere: Are we at a Tipping Point?

This post was sparked while I was leaving a comment over at Des Walsh’s Thinking Home Business blog.

Des was showing his enthusiasm for the recent talkup of a Melbourne Bloggers meetup which Darren Rowse seems to have personally taken on board (ergo: it’ll get done and be a success).

This past week seems to have been a big week in the Aussie blogosphere.

It all seems to have started at Craig Harper’s blog where he lists the Top 100 Aussie blogs (check down the right sidebar a little on down) and Meg’s Top 100 Australian Blog Index. That received quite a bit of publicity and exposure this week and out we all come.

Now what this did was engage a sleepy community and start a conversation going. YES, the Australian blogging scene is thriving, it’s alive and kicking and it’s growing. Of course, I already know that :-) but one can always use a good dose of proof.

Side Note: Of course I’m pissed right about now - because just learning about Craig’s blog and I’m going through it and realize that he’s having his own little meetup in a cafe just a short stop from yours truly … yesterday!! D’oh!

Anyway, back to the point of this post (blogging pundits tell me each post should only have the one topic… bah!)

What this week on engaging the Aussie blogosphere has done is to show how many of us there are out there and more importantly where they are.

No matter where it all started (The Top 100 thing, Darren takeover of the Melbourne Meetup or Des Walsh’s constant drive to set up a BloggerCon - poor Des) … whatever, I believe we’re coming to a sort of tipping point - that tipping point is the exposure of the growing Aussie blogosphere.

With that comes more meetup, more friendships, potential partnerships, business ideas etc … and of course a damn fine time.

But more importantly, I’ve now got dozens upon dozens of blogs by fellows Aussies that I’ve never heard off that I have to check out … and I’m starting right now on a lazy (coldish) Melbourne Sunday afternoon.

Big Statement Time: I think this has been the biggest week in the Australian blogosphere. The Australian b’sphere will grow 10-fold because of this week’s exposure and on-going conversation … and I plan on expanding that conversation and exposure … (in other words: watch this space).

I believe you’re right, Martin. And I also believe a bloggercon of some kind will evolve out of this - no pushing needed :)
